Todd Grubbs has put most Virgil Guitars through the paces of what he expects in an electric guitar. A phenomenal instrumental rock guitarist since the 80's, Todd has worked with us carefully giving us suggestions along the way to have us make the ultimate electric guitar for genuine tone, playability and serious mojo.

Since the finalization of the Dueling Dragons, we have been working with Todd to find out how we could achieve the ultimate build for him and the culmination of years of his playing merged with our playing, we have developed the new "X-15T Speedmachine" - don't get us wrong by the name, it's not a "shredder" guitar by any means! But it is built for tone and speed - as far as you feel like going. We took the exact specs from the Dueling Dragons neck, which is a C-shaped neck, and is thin, but not "too" thin" We feel that this neck is perfect for most guitarists needs. We also wanted to go back to the 24 frets (Like the Dueling Dragons) but we also decided to make our first tremolo build. Out of all tremolos, we decided to go with the Wilkinson tremolo (Which are now licensed by Gotoh). This tremolo was our best bet for staying in tune, by using the Graphite Tusq nut and Schaller Locking Tuners from Germany. Both Todd & I were never big fans of the Floyd-Rose type (or similar models) We wanted more simplicity that would simply stay in tune! Todd also LOVES alder bodies... check!

"As a player, the most important thing for me in a guitar is playability and sound. Virgil Guitars are the best playing and sounding electric guitars I have ever played. Honest. Then when you add in the amazing beauty of the inlay and woodworking, you really have something very special. Having a Virgil guitar made for me was one of the best experiences of my life. I have been playing guitar for close to 40 years and I have always had the dream to create a guitar to my exact specs and Virgil nailed it. You have to know Virgil to understand the care and devotion he puts into these builds. He is an artist, a player and he is also obsessive compulsive, a great combo for us his clients (maybe not for his wife!).
